Transmission Testing Solutions

We design advanced test benches for manual and automatic transmissions—validating torque, RPM, shifting, and thermal performance. From end-of-line testing to durability checks, our automated solution help OEMs deliver quality faster and ensure every transmission performs flawlessly on the road

Overview

At Trinitas, we design automated turnkey transmission testing systems for both manual and automatic gearboxes used in automotive and heavy machinery applications.

Our advanced test benches validate critical parameters such as torque, RPM, gear ratio, gear shifting accuracy, lubrication efficiency, thermal performance, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) characteristics under real-world stress conditions. Our systems support end-of-line testing, functional validation, and long-term durability assessments.

Mechanical Subsystems

  • Robust Test Bench: Designed to securely mount the UUT. Includes height adjustment fixtures and pneumatic actuators for multi-model compatibility.

  • Hydraulic Subsystem: Equipped with pumps, filters, flowmeters, and an automated mechanism for oil filling, circulation, draining, and filtering.

  • Prime Motor with Auto Engagement/Disengagement: Couples with the UUT shaft to provide torque and RPM input.

  • Transmission Locking & Disengagement Mechanism: Pneumatic actuators lock or release the UUT.

  • Axle Plate & Coupling Mechanism: Automatically connects and engages encoders and torque sensors to the transmission output shaft.

  • Foot switch for sequence initiation.

Mesaurement & Sensing

  • Torque Sensors: Measure input torque from prime motor and output torque from transmission.

  • Encoders: Capture RPM and angular position at input and output shafts.

  • IMI Accelerometers: Connected via National Instruments accelerometer module for vibration analysis.

  • Acoustic Sensors: Measure NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) characteristics.

  • Load Cell: Monitors gear-shifting force for automatic transmissions.

  • Temperature Sensors: For thermal performance monitoring.

  • Fault status indicators monitoring: For Encoder connectivity, Filter condition, Motor trip status etc.

Test Automation & Management

  • Integrated Platform: Built using NI LabVIEW GUI, custom VIs, and NI TestStand sequence editor for deterministic control and flexible test sequencing.

  • DAQ & Control: NI PCIe cards and cDAQ modules handle high-speed signal and data acquisition, as well as control of hydraulic power packs, electric motors, actuators, and sensors.

  • Custom Test Profiles: Users can predefine and load profiles (endurance, performance, stress tests) and edit sequences dynamically in TestStand.

  • Advanced Sensing: Measures sound and vibration via acoustic and accelerometer sensors; scans DUT barcodes and auto-adjusts fixture height for different models.

Data Logging & Reporting

  • All test data and events are automatically stored in a SQL Database.

  • System Supports:

    • Individual inverter traceability by serial number

    • Automatic test report generation (CSV, PDF)

    • Trend analysis and reliability performance charts

  • Optional integration with customer MES or QA systems for centralized data management.

Safety & Interlocks

  • Emergency Stop & High-Voltage Interlocks shutdown all high-voltage circuits and moving components during emergencies, ensuring operator safety. Motor overload protection and sensor health checks safeguard against accidental activation.

  • Real-time monitoring of voltage, current, pressure, and temperature with automatic safe shutdown if limits are exceeded or hardware faults occur.

  • Proximity sensors and limit switches prevent collisions and injuries; guard/door interlocks ensure the rig cannot start unless all safety barriers are secured.

  • Hydraulic pressure, oil level/flow, and cooling system interlocks block operation if conditions are unsafe, preventing mechanical damage and overheating.
